Muharram in Madinah

Muharram (محرم) is about to start soon, every year a lot of Muslims visit Madinah to celebrate the Islamic new year. The start of Muharram differs every year because of the use of the the lunar Hijrah calendar. This year Muharram is expected to start at the 16th of December. There are many events associated with the remembrance that take place in the congregation halls (Hussainia) in Madinah.
Muharram is also celebrated in the Mosque’s, therefore special services with prayers are being held in different Mosques in Madinah. Celebrate your Muharram in one of Medina´s Mosques and honor the arrival of the Prophet Muhammed, peace be upon him, in Medina. Also especially for the tenth day of Muharram, Ashurah or the day of grief will be several services organized in Madinah.
